Some of you may be aware of the work our health and Safety consultants do within the UK rail industry. Whether it is site safety inspections, planning access requirements or writing the mountains of safety related paperwork required within the industry. Which got me to thinking about how the general public and commuter perceive the rail industry as a whole. The industry is quite often given a pretty bad review in the press; increased fares, passenger delays, wrong type of snow, leaves on the line, and many more headlines are all too common.

Noise Induced Hearing Loss

Noise induced hearing loss or NIHL in short is an artificial cause of hearing loss, which unlike other causes such as ageing is directly linked to work and lifestyle choices rather than natural processes. It is reported that 1 in 7 UK individuals are thought to present the signs of hearing loss (source: Action On Hearing Loss 2005 study) in which the prominent causes are age related and noise induced.

Are you an accident magnet?

Whilst some people actively seek danger for the sheer thrill of it, others seem to attract it quite naturally. I was reminded of this the other day as I browsed through one of those posh looking country life magazines I’d found on the train.
